Our Magnesium Chloride Deicer is available in any quantity over 275 gallons. We can fill your tank/s on site or we can deliver IBC totes that holds 275 gallons, a semi tanker load carrying up to 6,300 gallons), and rail car that holds 20,000 gallons.

Applications

Liquid magnesium chloride is primarily used for anti icing as a direct application before the onset of snow and ice. You accomplish this by using it as a pre-wetting agent to catalyze and enhance road salt. Our magnesium chloride is generally viewed as the best choice when using a chloride-based product to address snow and ice concerns. Special surfaces, like brick and architectural design features (think  granite, stone, pavers, and various concrete surfaces), typically respond best to magnesium chloride.

It’s also the most environmentally-sound choice. Surrounding, shrubs, grass, plants, and vegetation are susceptible to damage when exposed to ice melters. Magnesium chloride provides very low negative impact on landscape features, yet it still provides the strength in performance to keep areas clear for safe travel. Magnesium chloride in liquid form is an excellent choice for applying to surrounding walkways and entrance access points to buildings. Tracking sand and salt into buildings has become a major concern for facilities managers and maintenance personnel. Liquid magnesium is simple to manage and doesn’t damage carpets and flooring surfaces.

Winter – Anti-Icing

Deicing using magnesium chloride is commonly used in winter applications because it combines a low freezing point, lower than Sodium Chloride (Salt), with a concentration that is higher than other liquid deicers allowing it to last longer than both Calcium Chloride and Salt. Magnesium chloride deicer is ideal for anti-icing (e.g treating surfaces prior to a snow storm or rain before or after freezing temperatures that will create black ice or slick conditions). This allows a proactive approach to snow fighting by applying the solution directly on roads and parking areas before it snows. As the ice and snow fall, the moisture activates the application and creates a brine.

The anti-icing process melts the first couple of centimeters of snow. In this scenario what’s the benefit? The mechanical clearing becomes significantly easier as the bonding of the ice and snow to the road is diminished, providing an easier and more time-efficient process. Typically, the clearing blade will get down to the pavement, allowing for effective subsequent treatments and the prevention of “hard pack.”

Winter – Pre-wetting

Liquid magnesium chloride deicer is used to pre wet dry products, like rock salt and sand, to improve their performance. The added moisture when sprayed on dry material has several benefits, including less material used with similar performance. Moist salt sits on the surface, and “scatter” from traffic is significantly reduced, saving material cost and benefiting the surrounding environment with less material on the shoulder of the road. The liquid magnesium activates the brining process of the salt, providing a spike in temperature, which improves the performance. You’ll also use less of the material, and you’ll find that it  works at significantly lower temperatures than using straight salt without pre-wetting. When used for pre-wetting, the liquid magnesium is usually sprayed right at the spinner just before the salt scatters on the desired surface that is being treated but can also be sprayed ahead of time on sand piles to keep them from freezing and allow it to be loaded more easily and prevent clumping.

Cardlock use requires customer setup ahead of time by appointment.
